To start off with, we thought we'd show you what our schedule looks like. Click on the names of the courses to see the websites of where we'll be playing. It's going to be a busy trip. I hope I can keep up with my Pops!
June 2 - Dad gets into Edinburgh about 10:30am, and we have time to dump his bags at my flat before we head east along the coast to North Berwick Golf Club for our first 18.
June 3 - We'll drive up to St. Andrews, our base for the next 3 days. Hopefully we'll be playing the Old Course, but we're in the hands of the daily ballot. If we don't get lucky with the Old Course, I'm sure we'll find somewhere else to swing the sticks. And we can still fit in the Old Course on the 4th or the 6th. We've got some options.
June 4 - Possibly the Old Course in the morning if we didn't get on the day before, but we'll definitely be taking a little drive up the coast to Carnoustie for an afternoon round. I hope we have enough balls!
June 5 - We'll be playing 2 rounds at Crail Golfing Society, a short drive south from St. Andrews. We'll take on the Craighead course in the morning and Balcomie in the afternoon.
June 6 - Our last chance for the Old Course if we haven't already gotten on. We'll be leaving St. Andrews and heading north, all the way up to Dornoch, where we'll spend the next 3 nights.
June 7 - Royal Dornoch. 2 rounds here on what's supposed to be an amazing track.
June 8 - Even farther north, we will be playing as many holes as we want at Brora, where I think it will be light until midnight. 36 holes? 54? 72? We shall see how far our legs can take us.
June 9 - We leave Dornoch for the drive back to Edinburgh. But on the way we will stop near Inverness to play our final 18 at Castle Stuart. It's a new course, but it's supposed to be fantastic, and I think it will be a fitting finale to our odyssey.
June 10 - Dad flies home, and I start to do something about my dissertation.
So that's our trip in a nutshell. Feel free to add your comments/questions to our posts, and until then, hit 'em straight!
